Dr. Arun Castro
Dr Arun Castro is a BAPAM-approved assessing clinician (British Association of Performing Arts Medicine). He practises as a general practitioner (family physician) in Pimlico, London.
Arun is passionate about touring and working with industry professionals to optimise their health for touring and life, and is a firm believer in a holistic approach to wellbeing, evidenced based care and the value of face-to-face consultations. He has extensive experience working with people experiencing acute mental and physical health crises, having trained in Emergency Medicine (King’s College Hospital London) & having held a NIHR funded Academic Clinical Fellowship in Psychiatry (Brighton).
Arun’s diverse skill set and love for live music led to him working as a freelance “Roadie Medic” for stadia tours & the field hospitals of Glastonbury, Reading and Download festivals. His work there involved treating people with acute work-related injuries, significant drug overdoses and acute stress reactions amongst other things.
Sharing the pain that festival cancellations brought during the Covid-19 lockdowns, Arun volunteered as an ICU doctor at NHS Nightingale London – the UK’s pandemic hospital.
Having time to reflect, Arun set-up RoadieMedic.com to provide the touring community with a bespoke GP-service to solve problems of accessibility and continuity of care for performers and production on tour. RoadieMedic.com offers pre-tour face-to-face consults paired with on-tour online video appointments & remote prescribing to offer flexibility and minimal tour disruption.
Arun has also contributed as an editor and chapter author for the MITC’s Touring & Mental Health Manual and has been involved with the UK Government’s Event Research Project (Download Festival Pilot 2021).
