Christy Merriner is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in Los Angeles, California. Prior to becoming a therapist, Christy spent 15 years in the music business, working as an artist manager and record label professional. Christy’s music career actually started at 13 when she bought a used Fender Telecaster and a “Smells Like Teen Spirit” tablature book. After playing in mediocre punk bands and working for three years as a record store clerk, Christy landed her first label job at 19 as a College Marketing Rep in Washington, D.C. for Sony Music. A year later, she moved to New York City to work for Warner Bros. Records and later, Sire Records before transitioning to artist management. Christy managed bands, producers, mixers, engineers and even tour managed herself. Christy has toured with artists globally, including MGMT, Kings of Leon, Citizen Cope, Kaki King, and The Drums, to name a few. In 2008, Christy started her own music management company.
Making the transition from Manager to Therapist felt like a natural progression for Christy, who was already adept at counseling her client’s music careers through the complexities of touring and life as a public figure. Christy’s therapeutic approach is practical, solution-focused, and often blends coaching and therapy. Christy utilizes attachment theory, depth psychology, neurobiology, and mindfulness modalities tailored to meet the needs of each unique client. Christy’s philosophy is that therapy is an art and science which requires a collaborative process whereby both therapist and client engage in a process of inquiry, exploration, discovery, and transformation. Christy enjoys working with passionate and creative individuals from all industries and she finds that many of her clients, in addition to being highly creative, are also spiritual seekers, wellness practitioners, and those yearning for deeper meaning in their daily lives.
