Nerea Palomares

Psychotherapist (PhD, MA) she / her

About me

I am psychologist and I have been in clinical practice for over 17 years. I am passionate about my work, especially the relationship that develops within therapy. My approach is integrative, using techniques ranging from cognitive-behavioral strategies, tools from humanistic therapy, trauma-focused approaches, DBT, study of personality traits/disorders, and I focus especially on the therapeutic bond that is generated in the sessions.

My background

I was a singer for over 15 years, so I know the difficulties that musical artists face. Now, I am happy to be able to support musical artists so they can feel at ease and face all the challenges of their profession. I have worked for 17 years in the field of personality disorders, especially in Borderline Personality Disorders, so I am aware of the difficulties that some traits entail. A significant part of my therapy is also recognizing and identifying the personality traits that are causing us distress so that we can generate a change in the patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that lead to a healthier and more fulfilling life. I completed my doctorate on the feeling of emptiness in borderline personality disorder and created an association on this disorder with a colleague (Asociación Océano TLP). I am a professor of psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid where I have a research line related to music and mental health. I conduct therapeutic retreats for performing artists in order to understand how to deal with music industry challenges. I also provide training to music artists in various organizations in Spain. Last year I started a podcast about music and psychology called “Afinadamente.”

Working with me

I work with musical artists and help them to face the difficulties of their profession in both therapeutic sessions and workshops. My goal is for the person who comes to therapy to feel confident, safe, and free to tell me the reasons for their suffering so that I can accompany them in the process of regaining control of their personal, relational, and professional life.

If you work with me, you will learn to manage these difficulties through a joint work, of proven effectiveness. We will establish mutual trust and I will carefully evaluate your case, I may ask you to fill out several questionnaires and I will most likely ask you to do records and homework. We will set therapeutic goals so that you are clear from the beginning what you want to achieve throughout the therapy, and you can determine whether you have achieved them or not. I will put my experience at your service to work together, hand in hand, to overcome everything that creates discomfort for you so that you can get to know yourself and find the calm and tranquility to be able to carry your work and life forward.
